PALM SUNDAY WITH THE PREZ!!! (photos of the president's speech at St. Mary's Church, and the Bishops & students proceeding into the Church)

April 10

Yesterday we went to church with the president of Namibia! The Palm Sunday service at the church here at St. Mary’s was also the enthronement ceremony for a new bishop. (The new bishop is the groom from last month’s wedding, which I mentioned before.) President Pohamba came to Odibo to attend the enthronement ceremony. He grew up a few kilometers away from here and he visits from time to time. He made an excellent speech at the end of the ceremony, about the bright hope for Namibia’s future, progress made since independence 16 years ago and the need for continued hard work, and a commitment to fighting HIV without discriminating against those affected by it. We didn’t meet him personally but saw him from our corner at the back of the church. After the 6-hour church service, we feasted on goat meat with all of the churchgoers.

We are going to try to go to a Passover seder on Thursday night if possible. Wednesday evening we have a school commitment in Odibo, and we’ll go down to Windhoek on Thursday. We heard there is a synagogue in Windhoek so we’ll try to find out if they are hosting a seder on Thursday.

Happy Easter and Passover everyone.

Wow - I got to participate in the naming of your firtborn!
Great photos - they made me feel as if I was there. Keep them coming! I'd be interested if there are any Easter traditions in Namibia.

South African newspaper says Pitt and Jolie want baby born in Namibia
JOHANNESBURG, South Africa (AP) - Celebrities Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt plan to have their baby in Namibia, a South African newspaper reported Sunday.

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa (AP) - Celebrities Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt plan to have their baby in Namibia, a South African newspaper reported Sunday.

The couple are currently staying at a heavily guarded lodge near the resort of Walvis Bay with Jolie's two adopted children, Maddox and Zahara.

The Sunday Times said the governor of the local Namibian province, Samuel Sheefeni Nuuyoma, had met with the couple on Friday.

"They are having the baby here and they talked about giving the child a Namibian name," he was quoted as saying by the Sunday Times. He said Jolie had made the choice because "she loves Namibia."

It was not immediately possible to reach Nuuyoma for confirmation.

The couple have been shielded from reporters by heavy security. But the Sunday Times carried what it billed as "exclusive" pictures of Jolie, Pitt and the children, as well as a security official chasing a photographer down the beach.

The newspaper said Pitt had managed to evade the press and go quad-biking in the Namibian desert and the couple had made visits to various game reserves and wildlife foundations.

Jolie reportedly fell in love with the southern African country in 2002 when she was filming Beyond Borders. Pitt's publicist said on Jan. 11 that Jolie is pregnant with Pitt's child, but no due date has been announced.
